These are all the ideas that come to my head when I sit down and actually blog. This is my first blog page ever, so I was undoubtedly a little slow at first. Some of them are written to be critically thought about and some are just fun. The pictures just add to the variety and give it some color!

And no matter how many things to do to change it were going to keep up with the NEW and IMPROVED facebook appearances and all!

I Made this awhile ago and I found it when I was trying to find...

I Made this awhile ago and I found it when I was trying to find notes for one of my classes (need to keep notes more organized)!

Sundae

Today is apparently the 119th anniversary of the creation of the Sundae, that yummy soda fountain confection of ice cream, fudge, nuts and whipped cream with a cherry on top. Well at least according to Google!

I thought it would be nostalgic to write about some of these yummiest delicious treats. There is quite a lot to say about sundae’s it seems!

Over the years, the sundae has gone through new ideas, creativity and just basic trial and error ideas.

Classic Ice cream sundae

Hot Fudge Sundae

Caramel Sundae

Brownie Sundae

Banana Split (an absolute classic)

Strawberry Sundae

Butterscotch Sundae

Here is a website that is dedicated to all things “ice cream sundae” - http://www.icecreamsundae.com/

Or how about the “most expensive sundae” for $1000 with the decadence of an edible 23K gold leaf (yes you read that correctly, for one grand you can have the most decadent sundae).

Here is some Canadian History: Alberta successfully created the biggest ice cream sundae in Edmonton in 1988 a whole whopping 24 tons

You can also send anyone who is deserving their own virtual Sundae

http://www.icecreamsundae.com/?action=sundae

After reading a little bit about sundae’s … When was the last time you indulged your sweet tooth? Grab a spoon and dig into your favorite flavor and favorite toppings.

Get creative and don’t forget the maraschino cherry on top!

I had to post this, makes me smile!

I had to post this, makes me smile!

"“We Learn …

After reading the Cognitive Surplus By: Clay Shirky who let me tell you is right on the money! I thought this video adds to some of his ideas, even though its promoting another book “Where Good Ideas Come From” by another great author Steven Johnson, the concept of “free time” is essential to this question as well.

Think about your free time! What do you do with it?

Ideas are in the making as we speak, and in this age (digital age) we can harness other people’s ideas at an exponential rate more than ever before, thanks to social media platforms (which by the way, we spend a great deal of time on) but its not going to waste or is it?

TIME is FREE - FREE TIME = Innovative and creative thinking occurs

We can extrapolate ideas from other ideas of people who we don’t even know, but are able to connect on the same level of interest.

FIND YOUR INTEREST AND … CONNECT!

AAGGHH!

I haven’t got sick yet, which is a feat for me because this time during the year is when everyone gets sick “crunch time” sets in and people pull more all-nighters and cram like crazy and try and write a whole term paper in 12 hours, start to finish (every university student has attempted this I am sure).

And every one in the library starts this chain reaction of coughing, especially on level 9 (but maybe that is because its more quiet) but seriously people stop coughing on the computers! I rarely use them since I carry my laptop around everywhere, but today I had to use one and it just had “infected” written all over it. There is this girl literally hacking out her lungs all over the place, I get your sick and it’s never a good time to be sick (especially now) but your sickness is now airborne!!! Which is just a vicious cycle

COUGHING ON KEYBOARDS = ECOSYSTEM OF GERMS!!!

Fact: The average keyboard carries over 4000 different kinds of germs - GROSS

Simplicity Goes A Long Way!

Today I found out that March 21 (which was yesterday, oops) was World Poetry Day

I think Dr. Seuss is a poetic genius! Of course there are thousands of great poets. But, Dr. Seuss writes such simple verses and the content is well thought out (even in green eggs and ham), and his books simplicity help kids learn how to read!

If you haven’t read “Oh the Places You’ll Go” in a while - pull it out and dust it off because the as simple as this book is … the writing and the overall message is invaluable.

Or just click on the link (above)!

But there is something fresh about turning the pages of a picture book. So hopefully you have a copy.

Be who you are and say what you feel,
because those who mind don’t matter and
those who matter don’t mind.
~Dr. Seuss

This weekend my friends and I got together and got inspired to make paper cranes for Japan, when we found out that for everyone made their is an organization that is willing to donate $2.00 for the reconstruction of Japan!

Even though none of us have made paper cranes in a very long time, we were able to figure it out easily after a few trial runs with construction paper (which is by far the hardest, since its so thick!) and then moving to loose leaf paper

and finally origami paper of course.

Then we made little paper cranes with very colorful origami paper too!

Between the five of us, we managed to get to about 110 paper cranes to donate to Japan! The donated paper cranes are going to be woven into an art installation after the organization (Students Rebuild) receives their goal of 100,000 submissions from all over the globe. The art piece will be a “symbolic gift from students around the globe to Japanese youth”.

Check out the link (next post) for more details on how you can be apart of this!

This quote I think still holds true today, probably even more relevant than in th past when it was written! If you really think about it, when was the last time you actually sat down and had a good, genuine conversation with someone?

Never mind the conversation you had over facebook on your lunch break, or the one you had on your cell phone that was rushed as you were thinking of a million other things and trying to multitask all at the same time. I mean the conversations that doesn’t involve acronyms and smiley faces

There really is a paradigm shift that has occurred with conversation, especially in the digital age. It is actually possible to go a whole day and not talk to anyone, in an open face-face dialogue. You can wake in the morning and engage with all the technologies in the world (lets face it they make interaction easy) without having an actual face-face conversation.

Maybe you had one today?

We need to keep having conversations. If you google “conversations” it comes up with the following search options …

how to have an online conversation

how to have an effective conversation

how to have a great conversation

What!!! Why are we re-learning how to have a conversation? We have been doing it for millions of years!!!???

This is the quote hanging on my wall that I see everyday I wake...

This is the quote hanging on my wall that I see everyday I wake up and come home to, usually a long day of studying and school!

I think everyone needs a quote or a saying that is inspirational.

I also laugh everyday as well! Fancy that

This was showed at an executive conference at Sony! This of course is a little outdated, but if you watch it it will literally be “mind boggling” if you haven’t seen it yet.

There are newer versions of “Did You Know” out there on Youtube obviously, and its incredible to see the changes from just 2008-2010. I don’t think one is up for 2011 yet.

Enjoy!

I realized this week alone I sent about 100 emails, which is...

I realized this week alone I sent about 100 emails, which is literally crazy for me , and they weren’t one sentence responses. They were pretty elaborate, well at least that’s what I think. But I came to this realization that I only look at the email portion of my web mail, you just look at the area where you are typing which is kinda weird. I believe this has something to do with miniaturization, as technologies get smaller and smaller, the areas we focus on become more defined.

Anyways after a week of emails I finally look on the side of my computer and actually pay attention for more than a split second, and I can’t believe what shows up? Yes some of the ads are relevant, but some are just mind boggling how they came up with these ads from the emails I have sent.

Like seriously! Where are they getting this information from, or are they just picking random bits of text and conglomerating them in algorithms to spit out at me. Google really has stretched its access to information tenfold in just a few years, but it really scares me! What the heck am I teaching Google about me, and what if it’s wrong.

Think about it, what is Google picking up about you?

Sentience - we are teaching the internet about ourselves everyday! Make sure we are teaching it something valuable and useful.

Posting Tumblr from my I phone and realizing there is a reason why we have laptops for times like...

Posting Tumblr from my I phone and realizing there is a reason why we have laptops for times like these!
Oh well there really is a first time for everything. But I will keep it brief this week, a change from the long paragraphs your used to Reading.

So I have been debating this idea of not appreciating the physicality of a book. There is just something different about the feel of having a book on digital devices and not being able to see the bound piece of literature. Reading all those pages and putting down the book gives the reader a sense of accomplishment! How does
This work when your done Reading a book on ur iPhone or ipad? I realise kindle and Kobe have their place in learning. putting books on your shelf gives your place a sense of character!

Thoughts?

Ok this already feels akward posting this blog from my iPhone. But here it goes …

I just had to post this picture as soon as I saw it!

The little red rain boots just add to the “cuteness” I think

How Self Reliant Are YOU?

These may seem like really mundane tasks … but how many of these things do you really know how to do?

1. Perform basic First Aid?

2. Perform CPR?

3. Change a tire?

4. Build a Fire?

5. Operate a computer?

6. Drive a manual transmission vehicle?

7. Give driving directions?

8. Swim

9. Make a simple budget? OK Excel is allowed

10. Speak another Language

11. Smile for a Camera

These are just a few things that sparked my curiosity while writing this blog. We really have to ask ourselves what experiences and knowledge’s are we giving up … when we buy into choice-assisted technologies to make our lives even more easier than they already are.

There are just somethings that we “just have to know” we need that experience and we need to be taught certain things like First Aid and CPR … but how many people actually have both of these and could use their skills in an accident on scene? There is no computerized device to substitute this knowledge.

You can take your car to the mechanic if you don’t know how to change your tire

You can turn up the heat when you get cold

You can fiddle around with a computer for a while. get frustrated and then get a buddy from IT to show you the basics of computers

You can choose never to drive a manual transmission car and only buy automatics

You can turn on your GPS device to tell you where you are and how to get from point A to point B

You get where I am going with this …

But you have to know CPR and you have to do it well. Don’t ever loose this skill

Be Self Reliant and Learn how to do things without technology, because if their is a glitch in your system, what are you going to do?

Think about IT

“The Mind is like a parachute, it doesn’t work if it’s not open”- Frank Zappa

Fondue’s are so delicious!!! especially Chocolate...

Fondue’s are so delicious!!! especially Chocolate Fondues!!!!

I have had a fondue set almost 2 years now and it has never been opened! So I am going to play hostess soon and am going to be ambitious and make chocolate fondue! How hard can it be right?

Any Ideas for what to dip and coat with?

I have heard fruits are the best bet! And Graham Cracker crumbs on top of chocolate is even better.

Just plug it into your i phone and your set with the...

Just plug it into your i phone and your set with the conveniences of today and the 1980’s

Miniaturization makes way for older technologies to come back in style but only if they allow for convenience right?

This is apparently a hot commodity right now in both Canada and the US
